About Company
I’m the kind of guy who likes to wash his own car. It takes about an hour of sweat-soaked, grime-nailed work but at the end of it, I have a car that I can unashamedly get in and drive. It’s such a shame that me washing the car looks a lot like a damned rain-dance. One such productive morning, having detailed my ride, I showered, shaved, dressed and got into the car, pushed the start button and – nothing. After much troubleshooting (cars these days have got too smart for their own good), it was determined that the battery was at fault.
The common advice I received was to go to the local battery joint and get a new one. But the problem was that I didn’t know of a local battery joint. An Internet search and a browse through the HitAd didn’t help much either. The only lead I had was from a friend in the automobile industry who suggested the shop under review.
Velocity Battery Works is located near the 7th Mile Post (‘Hathe Kanuwa’) on High Level Road, on the left hand side when travelling from the Nugegoda flyover towards Gamsaba Junction. See business card below for address and contact details. The owner is a very helpful and attentive guy named Manju. They carry most of the popular battery brands and have most variants in stock. The battery I required was a DIN74 12V 74Ah maintenance free battery. The following options were available: locally manufactured Exide, US/Indian Amaron and Japanese/Thai Panasonic, out of which, I opted for the Panasonic battery. The quoted price after all applicable discounts was Rs. 26,200. A further Rs. 800 was deducted for surrendering the old battery. All batteries carry a 2 year full and 3 year prorated warranty. Manju also has a mobile unit should you require assistance at home.
I don’t know whether these guys give the best prices, but their quick service and Manju’s attention to detail and helpfulness, warrant them a mention on this site. Check them out, if you have battery battles of your own in the future.
